The New Haven Advocate December 25, 2003

by Craig Gilbert

I read the liner notes before I start listening to a record. On this CD, Guillorn does a cover of the Johnny Thunders' classic, "You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory." She also has three members of The Feelies, some Galaxie 500/Luna people and Voidoids' guitarist Robert Quine adding their musicianship. Da-a-a-a-amn!

And you know what? That's not even needed. This is a fine-assed record. You could lump it in an alt-country pigeon hole, but it's more like an acoustic PJ Harvey/Tom Waits/Ms. Patti kinda vibe. It's simple, minimal, bittersweet and beautiful. It's a smile with a hint of shadow across it. Well-written songs, mildly haunting vocals, not a turd in all 11 tracks. This is a real repeat listener.
